View once voice messages feature
WhatsApp will introduce View Once in 2021 for images and videos, enhancing privacy. The update now allows users to send voicemails that will disappear once they have been listened to. This feature can be used to share sensitive information such as credit card numbers or secret plans. View Once voice messages, like View Once videos and photos, are marked by a “one time” icon and may only be played one time.
Chat Locks
WhatsApp now offers the Chat Lock to all users. This feature allows users the option to lock specific chats, which prevents others from accessing it. It is useful when lending a device temporarily to someone.
Multiple accounts
WhatsApp’s new feature lets Android users log in to two accounts simultaneously. This eliminates the need to constantly sign in and out. This feature is especially useful to manage work and personal accounts, without having to use multiple devices. Users will need a second number, SIM card or e-SIM to set up a new account.
Create your own stickers
Users can now create, edit and share customized stickers within the app. This feature is designed to enhance group interaction and add a playful element to conversations. Users can easily convert their photos into stickers, or customize existing ones, without having to leave the app. This feature will roll out on iOS 17+ and WhatsApp Web in the next few days.
Instant video messaging feature
WhatsApp has added instant video messaging to its existing communication features, following the success of voice-messages. Users can record and share short personal videos directly in the chat. These real-time videos, lasting 60 seconds or less, allow users to express their emotions via video content. Crafting a video is simple: just switch to video mode and hold to record.
AI for WhatsApp
The company has been exploring the possibilities of Generative AI in order to improve creativity, productivity and entertainment via messaging. Initial services of AI may include AI chats, AI stickers and photorealistic image creation.
